GP services
GP services are usually the first contact if you have a health problem. GP services staff may include GPs (doctors), nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. They can diagnose and treat health conditions, prescribe medications, give health advice and make sure you get the help you need. They can also refer you to other NHS services. There's more information here about the different services you could be referred to.
GP services offer same day and pre-bookable appointments available Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 8.00pm. Some also offer appointments on weekends and bank holidays, please check with your GP service. As well as in-person appointments, most GP services offer telephone and online appointments, see the online healthcare services page for details.
Find a GP service
Anyone in England can register with a GP service. It's free to register. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number. You can use the Find a GP service to look for a GP practice close to where you live.
