The regional Race Equality Network (formed in January 2020) provides a forum to share lived experiences and influence change. The network is leading the way on supporting the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership to deliver on one of our ten big ambitions ‘We will have a more diverse leadership that better reflects the broad range of talent in West Yorkshire and Harrogate, helping to ensure that the poor experiences in the workplace that are particularly high for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff will become a thing of the past’. The Network increases the influence of ethnic minority voices through: 

• Reviewing and commenting on board papers for the System Leadership Executive (SLE) Group 

• Proactive representation at decision-making boards, including SLE, People Board, Clinical Forum, Health Inequalities Network and the Future ICS Governance Group;  

• Direct involvement through groups to support the system priorities on race equality 

• Influences and supports the delivery of the Partnership’s independent inquiry into the disproportionate impact of covid-19 on ethnic minorities  

• Supports delivery of the networks system ambition  

The impact of the network is felt across our Partnership and beyond. Some of this includes:  

• Launch of the Fellowship programme  

• A series of podcasts; ‘Can you hear me?’  

• Launch of an anti-racism movement 

• Design of a role modelling campaign 

• Review of the recruitment and selection pathway in conjunction with NHS E/I 

• Development of a talent pool and skills audit for the race equality network  

• Website design with repository of online material supporting the EDI agenda 

• Design of a system wide mentoring offer  

• Increased representation in decision making forums   

• Delivery of leadership masterclasses
