Don't give up on giving up
Smoking is the largest avoidable cause of death and disability in the UK. Every time you try to stop smoking, you’re a step closer to success.
There has never been a more important time look after your mental and physical health. Stopping smoking has immediate benefits to your physical health and long term will significantly reduce your chances of developing many illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, COPD, stroke and cancer. While quitting can feel stressful in the short term, research shows that once you’re past the withdrawal stage your mental health also improves.
#MumsCan quit smoking
Our #MumsCan campaign aims to create awareness and support for pregnant women wanting to quit smoking across West Yorkshire. The campaign focuses on younger women aged 18-25 to ensure those that want help, know how to access it.
We have used local insight to develop the campaign and understand more about what breaking the habit really means for local women. A new Mums Can website signposts pregnant young smokers to free, friendly, non-judgemental support, safer alternatives and proven techniques to help them make a change.
Vaping
Nicotine vapes can help adult smokers to stop smoking. Vaping is much less harmful than smoking as you don't inhale the toxic tar and the carbon monoxide. But vapes are not harmless. Short term effects can include coughing, headaches, dizziness and sore throats. Long term effects are as yet unknown.
We have produced some materials which you can share or print giving the facts about vaping and e-cigarettes:
