Respiratory care
Respiratory colleagues including pharmacy professionals have published and supported the implementation of West Yorkshire (WY) wide asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment guidelines incorporating high-quality low-carbon respiratory care to achieve the best outcomes for patients. The guidelines are hosted on the Respiratory Quality Improvement Programme for West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership guideline page. This further supports both primary and secondary to optimise devices to lower carbon inhalers where this is best for the patient.
Respiratory colleagues including pharmacy professionals have worked with West Yorkshire's Research and Development Team to create the Campaign to Help Improve Respiratory Prescribing (CHIRP) project. Supporting practices in West Yorkshire to improve the clinical care of asthma and COPD providing sustainability benefits through looking at issues such and the overuse of reliever inhalers and poor symptom control.
Community pharmacy promote appropriate disposal of inhalers back to pharmacies and support patients with new inhalers through the New Medicines Service.
