Intravenous to oral switches
Trusts within West Yorkshire are engaging with national priorities in optimising the switch of intravenous to oral antibiotic medicines which can reduce our carbon footprint, plastic waste and mean patients are able to go home sooner. A poster to demonstrate the sustainability benefits of using oral antibiotics compared to intravenous medicines has been created by LTHT, to help encourage clinical staff to make the switch as soon as clinically possible.

Returning unused antibiotics to pharmacies
Unused antibiotics should not be shared with others, thrown into domestic waste or poured into sinks or toilets. This can increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance. Resources to help signpost patients to return antibiotics to pharmacies for destruction are below:
