Our Neurodiversity in Schools work encompasses two projects being delivered across West Yorkshire and is the overarching name we are using for this across our regional system.
PINS Pilot (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools)
Autism in Schools
The Autism in Schools project has been funded by NHS England and is being delivered in secondary schools across West Yorkshire, between September 2024 and March 2025.
Partnerships for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS)
The PINS programme is funded by the Department of Education (DfE) supported by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE), between January 2024 and March 2025.
PINS brings together education and health workforces to meet the needs of all neurodiverse pupils more effectively in mainstream primary school settings. Delivered through joint working between education settings, local authorities and integrated care boards (ICBs), the programme will deploy specialist support in response to local need to improve teacher understanding of neurodiversity and application of whole-school approaches.
Autism in Schools
The Autism in Schools project has been funded by NHSE and is being delivered in West Yorkshire, in secondary schools, between September 2024 and March 2025.
Autism in Schools focuses on improving the experience of autistic children and young people in crisis to further develop and enhance the support for autistic young people in mainstream secondary school settings.
How will we deliver this?
There are many people across West Yorkshire involved in this work, including children and young people, their families, parent/carer forums, schools, local authority, health and wider system partners. Partnership working is key to the success of this work, enabling us to become better connected as a system to best support our neurodivergent children and young people.
This diagram shows the governance structure for this work and how the working groups come together and feed into the wider reporting and assurance meetings taking place each month. Our main delivery group is made up of representatives from all five of our areas, including those in senior roles who can support any decision making required, translating these into actions, as well as parent/carer partners with lived experience.
