Like COVID Medicines Delivery Units (CMDUs) across West Yorkshire, the CMDU service at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is treating patients at highest risk of becoming seriously ill with the COVID-19 virus.
These safe and effective treatments involve an intravenous infusion of neutralising monoclonal antibodies (nMABs) or a course of oral antiviral tablets. Patients assessed as high-risk and who have had a positive PCR test are being offered one of these treatments that aim to reduce the chance of the patient being admitted to hospital with complications of the COVID-19 virus.
The Trust has introduced a new survey to gather feedback on its CMDU service by post and online. Six CMDU patients who have all completed their treatment have responded so far. All six patients rated their overall experience as ‘very good’ with one patient saying, “Doctors and staff did a great job. A well organised, excellence service.”
There are some improvements to be made though. A few patients reported issues with communications, and this has been discussed within the Covid Medicines Delivery Team for solutions to improve the patient experience. The survey is ongoing and all the feedback received will be used to further develop the service and make the improvements patients have highlighted.
Information about who is eligible for these COVID-19 treatments and full details about the treatments is available on the NHS.UK website: https://
