West Yorkshire secures £1.5million to transform support for unpaid carers

Posted on: 9 December 2024

West Yorkshire has been awarded just over £1.5 million from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Accelerating Reform Fund to deliver two transformative initiatives over the next two years aimed at improving support for unpaid carers across the region. A collaborative partnership has been established in West Yorkshire to oversee the projects, bringing together NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, Bradford Council, Calderdale Council, Kirklees Council, Leeds City Council, Wakefield Council, and the five VCSE carer organisations. Our two regional initiatives will involve:

Digital support for carers

Our newly launched digital resource for carers, in partnership with Carers UK, aims to provide essential tools and information for carers. Alongside this there will also be a digital inclusion offer to support more carers to get online, empowering them to access resources and services more easily to improve their day-to-day lives.

To access this new platform carers can simply create a free account using our access code: WESTYORKS at https://carersdigital.org/

Respite support for carers

We will look to enhance respite offers for carers, including opportunities for leisure activities as well as look to expand existing respite provision. This initiative aims to provide carers with much-needed breaks to support their own wellbeing.
