West Yorkshire patients invited to share their views on non-emergency patient transport

Posted on: 18 September 2024

Following a national consultation and review of criteria for non-emergency patient transport services by NHS England, the eligibility for transport for some patients is changing.

To help with how these changes in national policy are implemented in West Yorkshire, NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (as commissioners), working with NHS Yorkshire Ambulance Service, want to understand how local patients currently travel to medical appointments in their day-to-day life, and what they would do if their current method of transport wasn’t available.

To gather this feedback a survey has been created and is open for all West Yorkshire patients to have their say. The closing date for this survey is Sunday 13 October 2024.

In addition to the survey, a range of engagement events designed to reach people from all backgrounds as well as those who experience disadvantages will be taking place across West Yorkshire. A list of these activities will be published on the West Yorkshire ICB website and the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership website shortly.

Groups who would like to take part in this engagement should visit our webpage and email us using the contact address provided there.

NHS-funded patient transportation is reserved for when it is considered essential to ensuring an individual’s safety, safe mobilisation, condition management or recovery. All eligible patients will continue to receive patient transport in their area.

Patients will be fairly assessed to ensure that those most in need of transport will receive a reliable and best quality service, in line with the new national criteria.
