West Yorkshire achieves milestone with 6,000th at-home kidney test

In December 2024, we celebrated a significant milestone - testing our 6,000th patient using the Minuteful Kidney at home urine albumin-creatinine ratio kit (uACR) provided by Healthy.io. This achievement marks a major step forward in improving patient access to essential health testing and addressing barriers to care.

The initiative began in November 2023, when we secured funding via the Health Technology Adoption and Acceleration Fund (HTAAF) to roll out the Minuteful Kidney solution. This innovative approach enables patients to conduct uACR testing at home using a kit delivered directly to them. The process is supported by a user-friendly smartphone application that guides patients through the test.

The Minuteful Kidney solution is designed to provide a quick, easy, safe, and convenient alternative to traditional in-clinic uACR tests for patients with hypertension. By enabling home testing, it helps test more patients while engaging individuals who may otherwise be reluctant to visit their GP for routine testing.

Deployment with West Yorkshire GP practices began in May 2024. Since then, over 11,000 patients have been sent a Minuteful Kidney test kit. Of the 6,000 patients tested so far, 33% have received results with a recommended follow-up action for their GP practice. 

This milestone demonstrates the success of Minuteful Kidney in enhancing accessibility to diagnostic tests and supporting GP practices in providing timely, patient-centred care.
