Scarlet fever and invasive Group A strep

Group A Strep (GAS) is a common bacteria which causes a ranges of infections including scarlet fever. It can also cause a rare, more serious infection called Invasive Group A Strep. This occurs when GAS bacteria gets into parts of the body where it causes serious disease, like the lungs or bloodstream.The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows that scarlet fever cases continue to remain higher than we would typically see at this time of year.
