Four Weeks Left to Get Your Spring COVID-19 Vaccination as NHS in West Yorkshire Rolls Out Joint Appointment Booking

Posted on: 4 June 2024

There are four weeks left of the spring COVID-19 vaccine programme. The NHS in West Yorkshire asks all eligible people to get protected with a vaccine before 30 June 2024.

For the first time it is easier than ever to get protected with joint bookings through the online booking system or NHS 119 to get a jab. If anyone over 18 years wants to get their vaccine at the same time, and place, as a loved one and they are both eligible, only one appointment needs to be made.

The latest weekly figures show that over 130,000 West Yorkshire people have taken up the COVID-19 vaccination offer since April when the spring campaign was launched, including at nearly all the adult residential care homes in our region.

Anyone currently aged 75 and over, or who will be aged 75 by 30 June 2024, is able to get the COVID-19 vaccine, along with older adult care home residents and people with a weakened immune system aged six months and over.

Depending on the vaccination site, those who have booked a joint appointment may be vaccinated at the same time or may have back-to-back vaccination slots.

Dr James Thomas, GP and Medical Director of NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Dr James ThomasCare Board said:

“From now until the 30 June, there are thousands of appointments available every day across West Yorkshire, including at pharmacies and GP practices. Some areas also offer convenient walk-in options and can be found online”

“COVID-19 still causes severe illness and hospitalisations in some cases, particularly among those most at risk. COVID-19 can still be dangerous for those aged over 75 and those with compromised immune systems, and even if you’ve been vaccinated before, protection does fade over time, so, it’s important to come forward if eligible.  With the new joint booking option on the NHS App, by calling 119 free, the NHS is making it easier than ever.”

A summary of the health conditions, treatments and medications that can cause a weakened immune system is available on the NHS.UK website, and a full definition of immunosuppression can be found in Chapter 14a (table 3) of the Green Book.
