We are pleased to announce that following a rigorous selection process, David Smith will be joining the integrated care board as our Chief Pharmacist. David has been undertaking the role on a part-time secondment basis for the past 18 months whilst also undertaking his substantive role as Director of Pharmacy at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).
David, a registered pharmacist for almost 30 years, has worked across most NHS sectors, including time as a community pharmacy manager and area manager for a large pharmacy multiple, secondary, community and mental health sectors as a senior hospital pharmacist and ultimately Director of Pharmacy at BTHFT. He also has experience of working with commissioners and primary care colleagues which has been further enhanced by his current work with the ICB.
David has significant experience working at a regional and national level. He is the current chair of the NHS North East and Yorkshire Regional Medicines Optimisation Procurement Committee (MOPC) and a former chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Chief Pharmacists Group (YCP). Nationally he is immediate past chair of the Association of Teaching Hospital Pharmacists (ATHP), served over a decade as a member of the National Pharmaceutical Supply Group (NPSG), responsible for medicines procurement strategy, and more recently on the Pharmaceutical Market Support Group (PMSG), responsible for enacting procurement strategy. In addition to this, he was also Yorkshire and Humber representative of the All England Chief Pharmacists group, a group established by the former Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England
