16 days of activism - West Yorkshire

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day and is run by more than 6000 organisations across 187 countries.

WY ICS are committed to supporting this campaign every year and there are many events being held to support colleagues in increasing their knowledge and strengthening their skills to maintain their safeguarding roles and responsibilities and ensure service users access the correct support to live free from abuse and neglect.

Leeds 

30-minute bitesize lunch and learn session on ‘Enquiry into Domestic Abuse’

Bradford and Wakefield: 

‘An audience with’ Kamaljit, the children and young person’s worker at Staying Put

This is an interview style information session focussing on the work of the young person’s domestic abuse advocate from Staying Put, with a Q&A session afterwards. The session is aimed at any practitioner working with children and young people where domestic abuse is a feature.

Domestic Abuse Act 2021 – children as victims

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises children as victims of domestic abuse in their own right. This is a multi-agency learning session to consider what this means for all of us in practice.

Sexual violence and abuse – new module launch

  • Define sexual abuse and sexual coercion

  • Identify a legal definition and how to gather evidence

  • Define consent

  • Recognise the limitations and barriers to reporting SVA

  • Myths and stereotypes

  • Knowledge of support services in the Bradford District

Active bystander session for male colleagues only

Male colleagues from all agencies who want to learn about the role of the active bystander with a view to supporting individuals who may disclose domestic abuse/coercive control.

Purpose of the session:

  • Discuss the role of bystanders in the prevention of abuse.
  • Identify a range of tools that can be used to safely support/challenge others.
  • Describe ways to support individuals who may disclose abuse/coercive control
