Background
Following a national consultation and review of criteria for non-emergency patient transport services by NHS England, the eligibility for transport for some patients is changing.
To help with how these changes in national policy are implemented in West Yorkshire, NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (as commissioners), working with NHS Yorkshire Ambulance Service, wants to understand how local patients currently travel to medical appointments in their day-to-day life, and what they would do if their current method of transport wasn’t available.
Most people should travel to and from hospital independently by private or public transport, with the help of relatives or friends if necessary. NHS-funded patient transportation is reserved for when it is considered essential to ensuring an individual’s safety, safe mobilisation, condition management or recovery.
The West Yorkshire Voice team at Healthwatch has produced this helpful document which explains what the project is about and this video to go with it.
Have your say
To gather this feedback a survey has been created and is open for all West Yorkshire patients to have their say. The survey will remain open throughout the period of engagement.
In addition to the survey, we are gathering insight by talking to interest groups in our local places and organisations. If you are a member of a group and would like the opportunity to contribute your group’s views, please email us at Wycommsand.
