Your home, your choice campaign evaluation
Between June and October 2023 the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership (WYHP) ran your home, your choice, a campaign to encourage people to think about ‘rightsizing’ and finding a home that’s right for them as they age. WYHP comprises 13 housing associations and two local authorities with homes in the region.
Built on people’s insight around healthy housing options, assets include a website, videos, social media content, pocket guides and posters. Evaluation showed that the campaign generated great engagement across West Yorkshire. People feel more confident to have conversations about rightsizing and know more about where to find support. The materials have longevity and findings are influencing housing policies and strategies across West Yorkshire. Read the full evaluation report.
April 2023 - survey to test design ideas
We sought views on which one of three different ideas, being developed as part of a rightsizing housing campaign, people prefer. Rightsizing is all about finding and living in the right space for a person's needs. We asked people who this campaign directly effects (for example; those who had just rightsized or may be looking to in the near future and relatives or friends who may be supporting others) to rightsize to fill in a survey (closed on 11 April 2023)
The survey focused on testing the creative design and campaign messages. Your feedback was incredibly valuable as we strive to create an impactful and effective campaign that best meets individual needs and supports older people and their families to begin thinking about rightsizing.
All responses were and remained confidential and anonymous.
The West Yorkshire Housing Partnership (WYHP), which provides a single point of access for all social housing related policy and delivery, is backing the campaign.
Focus groups
In February 2023 we held three focus groups to inform the development of the rightsizing campaign. The aim of the focus groups was to gain an understanding of preferred terminology, communication methods and the campaign look and feel. Read the full feedback report.
Literature review
Part of the campaign development includes gathering local behavioural insights and reviewing the literature in this area to better understand the factors which may influence older people’s choice to right size, or find healthy housing options.
The review found that:
- Older people do not move often and few move into specialist accommodation
- Housing options are limited and there is a lack of awareness
- Numerous factors can influence moving, including health and wellbeing needs, psychosocial factors, environmental and economic circumstances - it can be complex
For more information see this report which summarises the results of the rapid review of relevant behavioural insights literature.
